TIMILEYIN FOUNDATION CELEBRATES WORLD LEUKEMIA DAY WITH PATIENTS

In celebration of World Leukemia Day, the Timileyin Leukemia Foundation hosted its annual event with patients at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife. The 2024 global theme, “What Does Leukemia Mean to You?” encouraged individuals, families, and communities affected by leukemia to share their personal stories and experiences.

In his opening remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. John A.O. Okeniyi, represented by Dr. Tade Ijarotimi, the Physician-in-Charge of Phase IV, expressed appreciation for the foundation’s efforts. He urged the public to emulate the goodwill and selflessness demonstrated by the Timileyin Leukemia Foundation and its partners. Dr. Femi Adefehinti, a Consultant in Pediatric Oncology, highlighted the significant progress OAUTHC has made in treating childhood cancer, noting the hospital’s record of survivors.

The founder of the foundation, Ms. Modupeoluwa Bamidele, thanked the hospital management for their support and pledged her continued commitment to combating childhood cancer. She explained that the foundation was established in memory of her late son, Oluwatimileyin, and aims to restore hope to leukemia patients, encouraging them not to abandon their treatment to improve their chances of recovery.

The event was well attended by senior members of the department, including Prof. Olugbenga Adeodu, Prof. Muhiz Durosimi, Dr. (Mrs) Perpetua Obiajunwa, the current Head of Department, as well as other doctors, nurses, and students from the unit.
