The Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, to seek his royal blessings and support for the hospital’s golden jubilee celebration.
The delegation, led by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Okeniyi, included members of the OAUTHC @50 Planning Committee, chaired by Prof. Macellina Ijadunola. The visit took place on Sunday, 14 September, 2025, at the Ooni’s palace.
Prof. Okeniyi described OAUTHC as a center of excellence that has made landmark contributions to Nigeria’s healthcare system. He recalled that the hospital pioneered open-heart surgery in the country and recorded the first successful separation of conjoined (Siamese) twins in Nigeria.
Also speaking, Prof. Ijadunola said the visit was necessary to secure royal support and blessings as part of the anniversary preparations.
In his response, Oba Ogunwusi commended the hospital for its achievements and assured the management of his full support. He pledged to contribute in any way possible to the success of the celebrations before offering his royal blessings.
The OAUTHC @50 anniversary is scheduled to feature medical outreaches, academic lectures, sporting events, and a grand finale later in the year.
