Department of Medicine, OAU, OAUTHC Holds Appreciation Program to Celebrate Excellence.

The Department of Medicine, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), in collaboration with the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, Osun State, held a departmental meeting and appreciation program on Tuesday, 2 September, 2025. The event, themed around solidarity, unity, and excellence, brought together academic and clinical leaders, doctors, and staff members to celebrate remarkable achievements within the department.

In his welcome address, the Head of Department, Prof. Rasaaq Adebayo, expressed gratitude to all attendees and highlighted the department’s recent milestones. He proudly announced the successful May 2025 accreditation by the West African College of Physicians (WACP), where the Department of Medicine secured a full five-year accreditation in five sub-specialties: Nephrology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, and Dermatology.

Prof. Adebayo also celebrated the department’s 100% success rate in the December MBChB Examination in Medicine, noting the outstanding performance and highest distinctions achieved by candidates. He further commended the efforts of the department in organizing WACP/NPM modeled mock-examinations over the past years for Primary, Part I (Membership), and Part II (Fellowship) candidates, describing them as instrumental to the department’s academic growth.

Delivering the Chairman’s opening remarks, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, OAU, Prof. Bernice Adegbehingbe, represented by the Deputy Provost, Prof. Oluyomi Okunola, praised the department’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and clinical services. He acknowledged the visionary leadership of both past and present heads of the department, describing their contributions as exemplary and transformative.

In his goodwill message, the Chief Medical Director of OAUTHC, Prof. John Okeniyi, represented by the Physician-in-Charge of the Dental Centre, Prof. Elijah Oyetola, applauded the department’s integral role within the hospital community. He assured continued collaboration between OAUTHC and the department to achieve even greater success in delivering quality healthcare.

The event also featured special recognitions and awards. Professors promoted between 2022 and 2025, Prof. Olusegun Adekanle, Prof. Oluyomi Okunola, and Prof. Olayemi Awopeju were specially honored for their academic and professional accomplishments. Additionally, certificates of commendation were presented to doctors and non-clinical members of staff in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the department’s growth and development.

The program underscored the department’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, clinical innovation, and collaborative growth, setting a higher standard for future achievements.
