Eat Well to Keep Well: Dietetics Department Rocks OAUTHC with Wellness Vibes!

L-R Acting Head of Dietetics Dept., Dr. Obinna Ogbonna; Deputy CMAC, Prof. Akinwumi Komolafe; The CMD, Prof. John Okeniyi; CMAC, Prof. Josephine Eziyi and The head of Finance and Accounts Dept., Mrs. Foluke Fola-Alao.

If you thought dietetics was all talk and lettuce—think again! The Dietetics Department of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, just served up a flavour-packed, fun-filled experience at the first-ever edition of its health awareness program, Eat Well to Keep Well—and it was a blast!

The event, themed “Dietary Lifestyle and Your Health,” was a lively mix of expert talks, interactive sessions, body measurements, and yes, a raffle draw that had the crowd buzzing with excitement!

In his opening remarks, the ever-eloquent Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Akintunde Okeniyi, reminded everyone that “we are what we eat”. He called for better food choices in terms of quality, quantity, and timing—sprinkled with humor and wisdom that resonated with the crowd.

There came the crowd-favorite, Dietitian Adetutu Akinnifesi, who kicked things off with a deep dive on eating habits, food selection, and diet patterns. Her message? “Let food be our medicine!” – and with the energy she brought, no one was reaching for junk food after that.

The acting Head of the Dietetics Department, Dr. Obinna Ogbonna, spiced things up with real talk on the mysteries of visceral fat and how catching it early can save lives—and waistlines. He dished out tips on food choices that do more good than harm.

The event had a healthy serving of top dignitaries, including: Prof. Josephine Eniola. Eziyi (Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee); Prof. Akinwumi Komolafe (Deputy Chairman, MAC); Mrs. Foluke Fola-Alao (Director, Finance & Accounts); And a fine blend of senior hospital officials and enthusiastic attendees!

But let’s talk about the real cherry on top—the raffle draw! Cheers echoed, numbers were called, and lucky winners walked away with exciting gifts and even bigger smiles. It was the perfect recipe for laughter, bonding, and a whole lot of good vibes.

Guests also got the chance to check their anthropometric stats—height, weight, BMI—and learn how their numbers stack up for a healthier tomorrow. Because what’s better than knowing your health goals and winning a prize in one day?

With energy high and spirits even higher, the Eat Well to Keep Well program delivered a beautiful mix of education, empowerment, and entertainment. The Dietetics Department has truly stirred the pot on health awareness in the OAUTHC community—and we’re already hungry for the next edition!
