The leadership of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife, organized a comprehensive two-day training retreat for Service Chiefs and Heads of Departments from Friday, November 17, to Saturday, November 18, 2023.
The primary objectives were to reinforce a deep understanding of the Public Service Rules, enhance capacity building, and reequip participants with the essential work ethics crucial for peak performance in hospital service delivery.
The management underscored that the sensitization retreat aimed to foster positive attitudinal changes, transforming unethical behaviors, and practices among staff members.
The goal was to facilitate better decision-making by service chiefs and department heads, ultimately positively impacting all categories of hospital staff.
In his address, Prof. John Okeniyi, the Chief Medical Director, reaffirmed his commitment to efficient healthcare services with a focus on excellence and community service.
He emphasized that work ethics, the rule of law, integrity, and efficiency should not be mere concepts but actionable behaviors demonstrated by all staff members. Prof. Okeniyi expressed his readiness to collaborate with everyone in realizing the vision and mission statements of the OAUTHC.
Prof. Okeniyi declared that the era of ignorance and ineptitude was over; asserting that the benefits derived from the retreat should eliminate any excuse for ignorance. He urged participants to disseminate the acquired knowledge within their departments.
Key topics covered in the seminar lectures included Work Ethics and Sources, Public Service Rules, Criminal Code, Penal Code, Civil Service Handbook, Official Gazette, Discipline, An Overview of Understanding the Critical Elements of the New Public Service, and the New Performance Management System.
