The Dietetics Department gathered to honour their Director, Mr Salami Asimiyu Akorede, who retired on Thursday, 22nd May 2025, after a distinguished career defined by innovation, dedication, and impactful leadership at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex.
Throughout his service, Mr. Salami was instrumental in implementing several progressive programs that advanced dietetic practice and patient care within the hospital. He was widely admired for his mentorship of young professionals and his advocacy for healthy eating, both within the institution and the broader community.
Colleagues and staff praised Mr. Salami for his work ethic and exemplary conduct. The Acting Head of the Dietetics Department, Dr. Obinna Ogbonna, expressed gratitude to God for Mr. Salami’s life and career, describing him as a diligent, humble, and visionary leader.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Okeniyi, also commended the retiring director, acknowledging his numerous contributions and wishing him a rewarding retirement. Representing the CMD, the Physician-in-Charge of the Dental Centre, Prof. Elijah Oyetola, lauded Mr. Salami as an exemplary leader who was always willing to serve. He urged staff to emulate his strong work ethic and dedication.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Imam of the OAUTHC Muslim Community, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, highlighted Mr. Salami’s integrity and unwavering commitment to service over the years.

In his remarks, Mr. Salami expressed heartfelt appreciation to all present for their kind words and support, noting that he was deeply honored by the recognition.

The retirement ceremony drew a gathering of colleagues, friends, and family members who came to celebrate his career and wish him well. It concluded with a symbolic guard of honour by the Dietetics Department, paying tribute to his outstanding service.
