The College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and the Department of Internal Medicine, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, on Thursday, 28th August, 2025, held a grand valedictory ceremony for Prof. Dennis Amajuoyi Ndububa, a distinguished scholar and clinician. The event took place at the Clinical Skills Auditorium, OAUTHC.
In his welcome address, the Head of the Department of Medicine, OAUTHC, Prof. Razaq Adebayo, congratulated Prof. Ndububa for his exceptional career, describing him as a mentor and teacher to many doctors who passed through his tutelage as resident doctors. He also welcomed dignitaries from the university and hospital community.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, the Provost of the Postgraduate College, Prof. Adetokunbo Ilesanmi, praised Prof. Ndububa’s diligence and impact on teaching, research, and mentorship. He said the celebrant’s legacy would continue to inspire future scholars, particularly in gastrointestinal endoscopy.

The Provost of Health Sciences, Prof. Bernice Adegbehingbe, reviewed Prof. Ndububa’s career, noting his appointment as Lecturer I in 1990 and promotion to Professor of Medicine in 2004. She recalled his academic journey from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to specialized training at OAUTHC, and highlighted his numerous honours, including Fellowships of the West African College of Physicians, the American Gastroenterological Association (2016), and the Royal College of Physicians (2025).

Representing the Chief Medical Director of OAUTHC, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Prof. Eniola Eziyi, described Prof. Ndububa as a towering figure in Nigerian medicine and a man of deep Christian faith who combined brilliance with integrity. She noted his pioneering contributions in gastroenterology, endoscopy, and leadership roles, including as former Chairman of the Ethics and Research Committee and Head of Department.

In his remarks, Prof. Ndububa credited his success to God and appreciated colleagues, mentees, and family for their unwavering support throughout his career. He urged consultants to remain committed to patient care and expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who honoured him at the ceremony.
