The Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) has officially commenced preparations for its 50th anniversary celebration with the inauguration of a Steering Committee and six strategic sub-committees. The golden jubilee, billed to hold from Monday, 27 October to Sunday, 2 November, 2025, promises to be a momentous celebration of five decades of excellence in medical care, research, and education.
Themed “Honouring the Past, Engaging the Present, Shaping the Future,” the event aims to spotlight OAUTHC’s legacy and galvanize its vision for the next era of healthcare leadership.
The formal announcement was made during a high-level meeting on Monday, 19 May, 2025, at the hospital’s boardroom, marking a significant step in mobilizing institutional and stakeholder support ahead of the grand celebration.

Leading the Steering Committee is the Director of Administration, Dr. Ayodeji Bobade, under whose leadership the overall planning and execution of the anniversary activities will be coordinated. The committee is expected to provide strategic oversight and ensure alignment with the values and aspirations of OAUTHC.
Supporting the steering body are six sub-committees chaired by senior professionals from across the hospital’s departments:
- Finance & Fundraising: Prof. Akinwumi Komolafe
- Logistics and Security: Mr. Adesuji Adejuwon
- Programs and Sports: Mr. Waidi Lamidi
- Special Projects and Legacy: Prof. Marcelina Ijadunola
- Welfare and Hospitality: Mrs. G.O. Oluwasanmi
- Media and Publicity: Ms. Oluwakemi Fasoto
Each sub-committee is tasked with delivering targeted components of the anniversary, from security to sponsorship, legacy projects to public engagement.
In a presentation on behalf of the Steering Committee Secretary, Dr. Kingsley Ogunne provided a comprehensive road map of activities for the commemorative week, outlining key programmes aimed at community engagement, institutional reflection, and forward-looking partnerships.

Commending the committees for their depth of planning, Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Okeniyi, noted that detailed submissions—particularly from the Logistics, Special Projects, and Programme Committees—would be critically reviewed, with budgetary provisions made to support standout initiatives. He underscored the necessity of structured documentation, stating that such would serve as a blueprint for flawless execution.

A major highlight of the meeting was the approval of a commemorative anniversary logo, which will be officially unveiled in June. The emblem is expected to serve as a unifying symbol across all campaign materials and celebratory events.
As momentum builds, expectations are high among staff, alumni, and Nigeria’s broader medical community for a golden jubilee that honours the past while laying the foundation for the future.
