The Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) has pledged renewed collaboration with the College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, during a courtesy visit to the newly elected Provost, Prof. Bernice Adegbehingbe.
The visit, held on Friday, September 19, 2025, was led by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof. Josephine Eziyi, who congratulated Prof. Adegbehingbe on her election and praised her exemplary service in previous roles, including Head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences at OAU.
Prof. Eziyi reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between OAUTHC and the College of Health Sciences, describing it as vital to the growth and development of both students and staff. She, however, noted that some collaborative activities had declined in recent years. These, she said, included liaison meetings between the hospital and the university, the Chief Medical Director’s representation on college committees, and considerations for the admission of biological children of hospital staff into the university.

She expressed the hospital management’s desire to revive these engagements and urged the new provost to prioritize them. “We are confident that under your leadership, these initiatives can be revitalized to strengthen the bond between the two institutions,” Prof. Eziyi said.
In her response, Prof. Adegbehingbe underscored the importance of maintaining a cordial relationship between the hospital and the university, stressing that such synergy should never be compromised. In her words, “There is no Teaching Hospital without a College. To call it OAUTHC is because of the existence of OAU College of Health Science. Every other programme that is being done there (Nursing, Physiotherapy etc) are there under the auspices of a teaching hospital because there is a College of Health Sciences that the Hospital is attached to.”She therefore assured the hospital of her support and promised to give due consideration to the issues raised.

The OAUTHC delegation included the Head of Clinical Services and Training, Mrs. Boladale Owotade; Physicians-in-Charge, Dr. Olalekan Olasehinde, Dr. Temitope Ojo, Dr. OlujideArije, and prof. Oyetola Elijah Olufemi; Registrar of the College of Nursing Sciences, OAUTHC, Mrs. Deborah Elugbaju; and Mr. Lanre Awotinde.
