The Planning and Development Department, OAUTHC, organised a two-day sensitisation program as part of its improved healthcare services on the National Health Insurance Authority operations in Ife Hospital Unit and Wesley Guild Hospital. The two-day enlightenment program further exposed the latest developments, roles, and responsibilities of all the stakeholders in NHIA.
In his opening address, the Acting Chief Medical Director, represented by the Acting Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Dr Adekunle Adeyemo, stated that the Management deemed it necessary to organise this kind of sensitisation so that it could serve as feedback and also an avenue for an interactive session between the NHIA and its numerous enrollees.
Dr Adeyemo noted that through this sensitisation, the stakeholders had made room for accountability and fairness in service delivery. He said interested persons in the informal sector could now come together to contribute as low as N15, 000 each to make up for N45, 000 for three family members under the GIFSHIP platform.
Dr Saheed Adekunle Adeyemo from NHIA, Osogbo, spoke extensively on their mode of operation as can be obtained in the NHIA guidelines in his lecture titled Operations of the Scheme, Benefits Package, Requisite Role and Responsibilities of the Stakeholders Per the NHIA Operational Guidelines, which according to him, enshrines the rights and benefits of different categories of enrollees.
Similarly, in his lecture, Updates on NHIA Programme In Line With the New NHIA Act 2022, a resource person from NHIA, Mr Abiodun Oyawoye, reiterated the current mandate of NHIA, saying that the law now encourages every Nigerian to get enrolled in the scheme. He explained further that, among other things, health insurance is a must for every Nigerian and legal resident to improve and harness private sector participation. He reassured the participants that NHIA would continue to mitigate the identified shortcomings to achieve maximum success in the scheme.
Giving his closing remarks on behalf of the Management and his department, the Head of Planning and Development, Mr Shadrack Adebambo, appreciated all the participants’ presence, attention, and patience throughout the event. He assured that the department would continue to improve its quality service for the betterment and satisfaction of all the enrollees.
