The Executive Members of the Retirees’ Association under the Contributory Pension Scheme recently paid a courtesy visit to the Management of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) as part of efforts to strengthen goodwill and foster a cordial relationship with the institution.

During the visit, the association commended the Management for its commitment to ensuring continuous growth, improved healthcare delivery, and remarkable achievements in the hospital’s services.
Speaking on behalf of the association, the Vice Chairman, Mr. Felix Faniran, expressed appreciation to the Management and presented several requests for consideration. These included the provision of a senior citizens’ retirees’ house, the institution of periodic meetings between the association and Management twice annually, and the organization of an end-of-year get-together for retirees, among other welfare-related matters.

Responding, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Okeniyi, thanked the delegation for the visit and assured them that their requests would receive due consideration. He noted that while there are certain areas in which the hospital can provide support, some responsibilities concerning retirees fall within the purview of government, given their years of service before retirement.

Prof. Okeniyi welcomed the proposal for regular meetings and engagements, describing it as a positive initiative that would provide opportunities to discuss issues affecting members of the association. He also encouraged qualified children of retirees to apply whenever employment vacancies arise in the institution, emphasizing that recruitment processes would continue to be based strictly on merit.
The visit ended on a note of appreciation as members of the association thanked the Management team for its warm reception and attentive listening. In her closing remarks, retired Matron Margaret Alao offered prayers for continued peace, growth, and progress in the institution, as well as wisdom and guidance for the management team in steering the affairs of the hospital toward greater success.
