The Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, hosted the 8th Edition of its Grand Round on 16th June, 2026, bringing together hospital management, clinicians, departmental heads and other stakeholders to deliberate on the theme, “Patient Experience and Perception of Care at OAUTHC: Implications for Quality Improvement.”

In his opening remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Okeniyi, stressed that quality healthcare goes beyond clinical outcomes and must be reflected in patients’ overall experience, urging staff to embrace continuous improvement and accountability in service delivery.

The keynote presentation, delivered by Prof. Olalekan Olasehinde, Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, was based on a comprehensive survey jointly conducted by the Clinical Services and Training Department, SERVICOM and the Department of Community Health across the hospital’s five service units. The survey evaluated patient experience and satisfaction, service quality, staff attitude, clinic appointments and assessments, waiting time, and overall service delivery, providing valuable insights into areas of strength and opportunities for improvement.

The presentation was concluded with an interactive panel discussion featuring the Heads of Dietetics, SERVICOM, Nursing, Finance and Accounts, Medical Records, and the Physicians-in-Charge of Phases II and IV of the hospital. The panel critically examined the survey findings and spoke on practical measures to address identified gaps while strengthening patient-centred care across the institution. The various heads reaffirmed their commitment to improving service delivery within their respective departments and units and also appealed to the hospital management for sustained support through adequate resources, enhanced collaboration and continuous staff development to ensure that the proposed quality improvement measures are effectively implemented.

The Grand Round was attended by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Prof. Josephine Eziyi; the Director of Administration, Dr. Ayodeji Bobade, and other heads of departments across the hospital, reflecting a collective commitment to using patient feedback as a tool for institutional growth. The event highlights the hospital’s resolve to continually assess its services, promote excellence and build a healthcare system that is more responsive, efficient and patient-focused.
