The Family Medicine Department, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), has honoured a Hospital Consultant, Dr. Akinjide Olurotimi Ogundokun, with a befitting send-off ceremony in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the institution after over 19 years of dedicated service.
The event, held at the Andrew Pearson Multipurpose Hall, Wesley Guild Hospital Unit, Ilesa, brought together management, colleagues, friends, and associates to celebrate a distinguished physician whose career spanned residency training, clinical practice, leadership, and administrative responsibilities. The occasion was marked by heartfelt tributes, reflections, and appreciation for his unwavering commitment to patient care and institutional development.
Welcoming guests to the event, the Head of the department, Dr. Olanrewaju Oyegbade, described Dr. Ogundokun as an exemplary family physician whose dedication and selfless service have positively impacted the department and the lives of countless patients. He urged staff members to emulate the celebrant’s professionalism, integrity, and passion for service.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Okeniyi, praised Dr. Ogundokun’s honesty, dependability, and exceptional problem-solving abilities, noting that his courage to speak the truth and commitment to excellence earned him the respect of colleagues across the institution. He added that Dr. Ogundokun’s departure would leave a significant void in both the Family Medicine Department and OAUTHC at large.
Several goodwill messages were passed from colleagues to the celebrant. The Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Prof. Lekan Olasehinde, described him as a principled and God-fearing physician who brought honour to the specialty of Family Medicine through exemplary conduct and professional excellence.
The immediate past Physician in Charge, Ijesaland Geriatric Centre, Dr. Ladi Fakoya, praised his wisdom, humility, and approachable nature, while the current Head of the Centre, Dr. Waheed Ismail, commended his diligence and respectful disposition.
A former head of the department, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, described him as honourable, reliable, an excellent communicator, counsellor, and a physician deeply committed to quality patient care.
The Nursing Head, GOPD Clinic, Mrs. Olubunmi Akinola, also lauded his empathy, teamwork, and mentorship of younger doctors.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of gifts by friends, colleagues, the nursing department and members of the Department of Family Medicine while the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, joined the event virtually to deliver her goodwill message.
Responding to the tributes, Dr. Ogundokun expressed profound gratitude to the management of OAUTHC for the opportunity to serve the institution, and to his colleagues for their unwavering support and friendship throughout his career. He described his years at OAUTHC as fulfilling and memorable, stating that the relationships and experiences he had gained would remain invaluable as he begins a new chapter in his life.
