The African Research Group for Oncology (ARGO) took center stage on Monday, 25th September, 2023, at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) in Ile-Ife, when her Researcher’s Lodge called Brennan House, was officially commissioned, marking a pivotal moment.
The commissioning, a significant achievement for ARGO, kicked off a three-day symposium under the theme “Changing Cancer Care Landscape in Nigeria.
Prof.Olusegun Alatise, a Professor of Surgery at the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University and a Consultant General Surgeon, is a Co- founder of the African Research Group for Oncology, founded in 2013.
The group runs a clinical database and bio bank for Colorectal Cancer.
The chief collaborator, Prof. Murray Brennan talked about the importance of friendship in our day to day activities in life, when appreciating the team of ARGO, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals, Complex.
In his speech, he emphasized that making friends bring a lot of positive impact in the lives of individuals and the society at large.
The Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. Simeon Bamire was grateful to Prof. Segun Alatise for his immense contribution towards the achievements of the ARGO Building and also appreciated all members of the ARGO team for their support.
In his remark, the Chief Medical Director of OAUTHC, Prof. John Okeniyi, pointed out the contribution of the ARGO team in donating medical equipment to the hospital, and also free medical check-up for patients, training a lot of upcoming surgeons in the department and other departments, which includes the Nursing Department, Morbid Anatomy, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Radiology, Haematology and Medicine.
Meanwhile, earlier today, the Chief Medical Director, OAUTHC had a meeting with the Heads of Finance & Accounts and Audit Department for the growth and development of the hospital.
