Children Cheer as OAUTHC Commemorates Children’s Day

The Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, joined the rest of the nation to commemorate the 2025 Children’s Day with warm and thoughtful gestures that brightened the atmosphere within the hospital. The day was marked by meaningful activities and cheerful interactions that celebrated and uplifted young patients and their families.

At the Paediatric Dentistry Unit of the Child Dental Health Department, a lively programme was organised to educate and entertain children and their parents or guardians. The event highlighted an oral health talk that emphasised proper hygiene practices such as brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, adopting a healthy diet, and the importance of regular visits to the paediatric dentist. These messages were delivered in an engaging and accessible manner to promote better oral care from an early age.

The celebration also featured a quiz competition, a dancing contest, presentation of gifts, and group photographs with the children and their families. The joyful atmosphere reflected the department’s dedication to blending clinical care with positive social experiences for its young patients.

In addition, the hospital’s Business and Investment Unit, led by Mrs Tinuke Afolabi, coordinated the distribution of gift items to children, their relatives, and staff across various wards, adding a thoughtful and cheerful touch to the day’s commemoration.

The Chief Medical Director, Professor John A.O. Okeniyi, was acknowledged for his continued commitment to child health. As a professor of paediatrics, his leadership remains a driving force behind OAUTHC’s focus on comprehensive and compassionate care for children.

The smiles and gratitude expressed by recipients of these various gifts spoke volumes about the impact of the gesture. For many, it was a welcome moment of joy, demonstrating that OAUTHC remains a place of healing, empathy, and shared humanity.
