Committed to strengthen the fight against corruption and promote transparency in healthcare institutions, the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, will join forces with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to commemorate the 2023 International Anti-Corruption Day on Monday, 11th December 2023.
The International Anti-Corruption Day, observed globally on 9th December every year, is part of a larger campaign leading up to the 10th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, scheduled from 11th to 15th December 2023.
The day’s activities at OAUTHC will kick off with an awareness walk led by Prof. John Okeniyi, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of OAUTHC, and Mr. Demola Bakare, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for ICPC in Osun State.
The walk will commence at the Administrative Headquarters at 8:30 am and conclude at the Mini Auditorium of the institution where participants will engage in discussions and activities focused on the fight against corruption
Participants in the awareness walk will include the Management Team, Heads of Departments, Labour leaders, Members of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, National Youth Service Corps members, and members of Paramilitary Agencies.
The event aligns with the theme for the 2023 International Anti-Corruption Day: “Uniting the World against Corruption for Development.”
The CMD, Prof. Okeniyi, has played a pivotal role in reinforcing anti-corruption measures within the institution. He recently oversaw the reconstitution and inauguration of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit by ICPC.
Under his leadership, OAUTHC has embraced transparency, accountability, and various anti-corruption mechanisms across clinical and non-clinical departments.
The 2023 International Anti-Corruption Day aims to emphasize the critical link between anti-corruption efforts and peace, security, and development. It seeks to raise awareness of the collective responsibility of individuals, groups, organizations, and states in combating and preventing corruption.
All heads of departments, service chiefs, and representatives from each department are urged to join the Chief Medical Director in welcoming the ICPC Commissioner and Chief Executive Officers of other Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in Osun State at the Administrative Headquarters, Ife Hospital Unit, Ile-Ife, to kick off the awareness walk.
