In observing this year’s World Diabetes Day, the Diabetes Association of Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) Chapter, in collaboration with the College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, celebrated World Diabetes Day on 14th November 2023, at OAUTHC, Ile-Ife.

The celebration featured a diabetes awareness talk on Orisun FM, a diabetes discussion on Oodua FM, a free medical test, and a sensitization lecture at the Chapel of Grace Hall, OAUTHC, as well as free medical screening and consultation at the OAU Health Center Annex, Ile-Ife.

The guest lecturer, Dr. Tajudeen Adetunji, in his sensitization lecture on the theme of the event, “Know your Risk, know your Response,” disclosed that diabetes mellitus can affect many organs of the body if not properly managed.

He added that improper management of high blood pressure and cholesterol can exacerbate the havoc caused by diabetes, emphasizing the need for regular exercise, medical checkups, and a proper diet.

The event was graced by the Provost, College of Health Sciences, OAU, Prof. Babatope Kolawole, who admonished patients and relatives to be very deliberate in managing the disease through regular medical checkups and adhering to doctors’ prescriptions.
