OAUTHC Commemorates World Mental Health Day

The World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on the 10th of October. The theme this year is “Workplace Mental Health”.

It emphasizes the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace to benefit people, organizations, and communities.

Mental health is an integral part of health and wellbeing that underpins our individual and collective abilities to make the right decisions, build relationships, and shape the world we live in.

It is a basic human right that is crucial to personal, socio-economic, and community development.

Let us remember that we all face an immense amount of stress from a myriad of factors, especially in times like this with climate change, rising cost of living, wars, and conflicts, childhood trauma, discrimination, social media, gambling, and substance addiction to mention a few. All these factors can directly affect our mental health.

The workplace can be a protective factor for mental health, but it can also contribute to worsening mental health. A working environment that promotes discrimination and inequality, excessive workloads, low job control, and job insecurity poses a risk to mental health.

A safe and healthy working environment is a fundamental right. It minimizes tension and conflict at work and improves staff retention, work performance, and productivity.

At OAUTHC, we aim to prevent work-related mental health conditions by reducing the risks to mental health at work; protecting and promoting the mental health of our employees; supporting employees with mental health conditions to participate and thrive in the workplace; and creating an enabling environment for change.

Together, let us build the future we desire as we continue to provide optimal healthcare delivery service to the Nation while taking care of our health and wellbeing.

Happy World Mental Health Day OAUTHC!
