OAUTHC Hosts 3-Day Statutory Pre-Retirement Seminar for 2025 Retirees

Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, recently conducted a 3-Day Pre-Retirement Seminar from Tuesday, September 10 to Thursday, September 12, 2024. With the theme “Pathway to a Successful Retirement,” the seminar aimed to prepare the 2025 retirees to transition into retirement.

The event was flagged off by Professor John Okeniyi, Chief Medical Director of OAUTHC. In his opening remarks, Professor Okeniyi emphasized that retirement in Nigeria is a matter of grace, which everyone must hope for. He encouraged the 69 retirees to plan financially, maintain their health, and remain active and engaged in their communities. He underscored that retirement should be viewed as a new beginning rather than an end.

Mrs. Boladale Owotade, Head of the Pension and Retirement Department, expressed gratitude to the retirees and introduced the speakers. She noted that retirement is a great equalizer, bringing all to a similar starting point.

One of the Guest Speakers, Dr. (Chief) Ajibade Olubodun, former Head of General Administration, discussed the importance of adapting to life after retirement by relying on one’s personality, worldview, and flexibility to navigate post-retirement challenges. Meanwhile, Mrs. Margaret Oluronbi, former Director of Procurement at OAUTHC, stressed the necessity of having a clear, documented, and adaptable retirement plan. She advised on prudent management of gratuity and investment strategies to ensure productivity.

The seminar concluded with remarks from Mr. Olajide Omonije, Acting Director of Administration, who congratulated the retirees and wished them well in their future endeavours. The event closed with the presentation of Certificates of Attendance to 67 participants.
