The Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Okeniyi, has successfully trained and inducted 40 individuals into the hospital’s Fire Corps Service.

The new inductees underwent a month-long intensive training facilitated by the Federal Fire Service of Nigeria. The training equipped them with professional rescue and emergency response skills. The graduation ceremony featured a Passing-Out Parade and a series of drills, showcasing the competence and readiness of the new officers for deployment across the hospital’s five units.

In his opening remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Okeniyi highlighted the dual purpose of the programme: to strengthen the hospital’s emergency preparedness and to provide a structured career progression pathway for junior staff currently on Grade Level 6.

“This is another opportunity for them to advance their careers, with the potential to rise to Grade Level 17, in line with the approved Scheme of Service,” he said.

The Commander of the Federal Fire Service Training School, CSF Motunrayo Ilesanmi, commended the hospital’s management for initiating and supporting the programme. She stressed the importance of the Fire Corps, noting that their contributions would extend beyond the hospital to enhance fire safety across Osun State. She also mentioned that continuous training sessions would be conducted to maintain peak performance and efficiency.

During the event, the hospital management presented certificates of appreciation to outstanding instructors from the Federal Fire Service. They included Team Leader SF Bukola Popoola, ASF Emmanuel Adegoke, ASF Ustaz Aregbesola, and FI Damilola Olanusi, in recognition of their dedication and impact during the training.

Representing the Director of Administration, Dr. Ayodeji Bobade, Mr. Abiodun Oyamakinde delivered a vote of thanks on behalf of the newly inducted Fire Corps members.

“This is a landmark event, being the maiden edition since the establishment of this hospital. It marks a new beginning for Fire Corps personnel in their professional journey,” he said.

He also appreciated Prof. Okeniyi and the hospital’s management for their unwavering support, describing the induction as a historic milestone for OAUTHC.
