On Thursday, June 27, 2024, the College of Nursing Sciences at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) in Ile-Ife celebrated the induction of seventy-seven new professional nurses. The ceremony included graduates from the Ife Hospital Unit, Wesley Guild Hospital, as well as those from the Post-Basic Midwifery and Perioperative programs.
Dr. Aderonke Awoseemo, the Provost of the College, formally presented the new nurses to the management. In her address, she urged the graduates to exemplify excellence in their professional pursuits and emphasized the importance of continual learning to advance their careers. She also expressed profound gratitude to the hospital management for their steadfast support in facilitating the students’ success.
The Chief Medical Director, represented by Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Akinwunmi Komolafe, commended the inductees on their significant accomplishments. He underscored the critical role that nurses play in delivering high-quality healthcare worldwide and encouraged them to uphold the ideals and principles of the nursing profession. He wished them a rewarding and fulfilling professional journey, urging them to be exemplary ambassadors for the institution.
Alhaji Faruk Umar Abubakar, Secretary General and Registrar Nursing & Midwifery Council of Nigeria, represented by Mrs. Bola Abdul-Wahab, congratulated the new nurses, acknowledging their dedication and officially welcoming them into the profession. Mrs. Abdul-Wahab also administered the professional oath to the inductees, formally initiating them into the nursing community.
Key figures such as Mr. Olanrewaju Omonije, Acting Director of Administration; Mrs. Foluke Fola-Alao, Director of Finance; Mr. Adebowale Adedoyin, Vice Chairman of the Parents-Teachers Forum; and Mrs. Olapeju Laogun, Director of Nursing Services for Osun State, were present to extend their congratulations to the new professional nurses.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards, highlighting the accomplishments of many students, notably among which was Baliquees Sodiq, who received several individual merit awards and was recognized as the overall best student at the 11th Induction Ceremony.
