The Department of Family Medicine and the Gastroenterology Unit of the Internal Medicine Department at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, joined the global community in commemorating World Hepatitis Day 2025. The event, themed, “Let’s Break It Down: Get the Facts, Take Action”, took place on Tuesday July 29, 2025 at the Clinical Skills Lecture Hall.
In his welcome address, the Head of Department, Prof. Rasak Adebayo, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about hepatitis and encouraged all participants to “know their status” as a vital step towards prevention and control.

The keynote speaker, Senior Registrar in Gastroenterology, Dr. Ibukunoluwa Enesi, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the different types of hepatitis, their causes, transmission modes, prevention strategies, and available treatment options. His lecture highlighted the critical role of education and early detection in combating the disease.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Enesi stressed the urgent need for sustained community
engagement to enhance public awareness and support global efforts towards achieving the World Health Organization’s 2030 hepatitis elimination goal.
The event served as an opportunity to educate medical staff, students, and the general public on hepatitis-related issues while reinforcing the department’s commitment to public health advocacy and preventive care.
