The Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, has received a major boost in its radiographic services following the donation of a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) by RAD-AID International, in partnership with ARGO.
The PACS system, which facilitates the digital storage, retrieval, and sharing of medical imaging such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs, is expected to significantly transform diagnostic processes at the hospital.
During a visit to the hospital management on Monday June 16, 2025, the facilitator of the initiative, Prof. Olusegun Alatise, described the donation as a strategic intervention aimed at easing the diagnostic process for both patients and medical personnel. He noted that the system will eliminate the need for patients to physically transport X-ray films across departments, while enhancing the speed and accuracy of medical imaging interpretation.

“In line with global best practices, and just like we have done with the Mobid Anatomy project, this donation is to ensure that OAUTHC continues to deliver world-class care through digital innovation,” Alatise said.
Also speaking, Dr. Farouk Dako, representative of RAD-AID International, noted that OAUTHC, as a recognised centre of excellence in Nigeria, deserves cutting-edge radiological tools to match its reputation.

“The PACS system will not only streamline pathological analysis but also provide long-term digital archiving of medical images, ensuring efficiency and accessibility for future references,” he said.
Reacting to the gesture, the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (DCMAC), Prof. Akinwumi Komolafe, expressed appreciation to ARGO, RAD-AID, and Prof. Alatise for their commitment to improving healthcare delivery. He also commended the hospital’s Radiology Department, led by Mr. Wahidi Lamidi, for fostering productive collaborations.

“This donation aligns with OAUTHC’s commitment to innovation and patient-centered care. Management assures its full support in deploying and maintaining this vital technology,” Komolafe said.
Other officials present at the event included Dr. Ayodeji Bobade (Director of Administration), Mr. Oluwadare Ajayi (Head, ICT Department), Dr. Akinola Odedeyi, Dr. Adeniyi Aderibigbe, and Dr. Saheed Oyedele.
The PACS system is expected to significantly reduce diagnostic delays and enhance clinical decision-making at OAUTHC, reinforcing its status as a leading teaching hospital in Africa.
