The Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Wesley Guild Hospital (WGH) unit, Ilesa, marked a significant milestone on 21st  March, 2025, with the commissioning of the state-of-the-art Dolapo Abigail Gbonjubola Amenity Ward. The event brought together the hospital’s top management, officials from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and other distinguished guests to celebrate this remarkable addition to the hospital’s facilities.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director reflected on Wesley Guild Hospital’s 112-year history and expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Matthew Olusanya Gbonjubola for his generous contribution to the construction of the amenity ward. The project, executed through FIRS’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, stands as a statement to the power of giving back. In recognition of this noble act, the ward was named in honor of Mr. Gbonjubola’s late mother, Mama Dolapo Abigail Gbonjubola, ensuring that her legacy endures.

Mr. Gbonjubola, a leading figure in Nigeria’s tax administration and the Coordinating Director of the Compliance and Enforcement Group at FIRS, played a pivotal role in bringing the project to life. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, he expressed gratitude to God for making the project a reality and thanked the hospital’s management for the opportunity to give back to society.

The inspiration behind this initiative was his mother’s story of resilience and faith. After suffering the heartbreaking loss of ten of her twelve children, she sought medical care at Wesley Guild Hospital in her early 50s. There, she found renewed hope and was eventually blessed with a son, Matthew Olusanya Gbonjubola. In gratitude for the hospital’s role in his family’s journey, Mr. Gbonjubola facilitated the construction of the new amenity ward through FIRS’ CSR program.

Representing the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, the Coordinating Director of Special Duties, Mr. Shettima Tamadi, commended all those involved in the successful completion of the project. He highlighted that the initiative, awarded in December 2021, was part of FIRS’ broader efforts to enhance healthcare services across Nigeria.

Mr. Tamadi reiterated FIRS’ commitment to CSR initiatives that make a meaningful impact, emphasizing that quality healthcare is a fundamental right.

In recognition of their outstanding contributions, OAUTHC’s management presented meritorious awards to Dr. Zacch Adedeji and Mr. Matthew Olusanya Gbonjubola, honoring their dedication to advancing healthcare services.
