The Biennial General Meeting’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) hosted by the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife chapter, on Thursday, 7th December 2023, created a dynamic platform for insightful discussions at the Clinical Skills Auditorium of the hospital.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Oluyomi Okunola, the Chairman of MDCAN, underscored the importance of cultivating a congenial, conducive, and comfortable work setting for optimal healthcare delivery.

He passionately advocated for robust support for the new management of OAUTHC, emphasizing key areas such as office spaces, resident employment, aesthetics, staff welfare, security, and efficient pay point connections.

Aligning with the event’s theme, ‘Optimal Workplace in Healthcare Settings,’ Prof. Kayode Ijadunola of the Department of Community Medicine, OAU Ile-Ife, emphasized the critical need for employers to foster a supportive and collaborative work environment.

He urged employers to prioritize inclusivity and support for all employees to enhance overall work conditions.

In a virtual presentation, Mr. Sunday Babalola from the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, enlightened participants on the new public service rules and conditions of service for public servants, providing valuable insights for effective job performance.

Prof. Temitope Esan, the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, OAU, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the consultant and university administration process.

He stressed the importance of understanding the differences between university and hospital administration, fostering mutual respect, and introducing policies that advance the medical profession and contribute to institutional development.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Okeniyi, called for collaborative efforts between MDCAN members and hospital management to enhance teaching, deployment, and infrastructure.

Prof. Okeniyi revealed plans to transition the hospital into electronic medical recordings and emphasized the need to curb wasteful spending through a newly established Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) committee within the hospital.

Adding a philanthropic touch to the event, MDCAN donated chairs and tables to the hospital’s security unit. Prof. Okunola, on behalf of MDCAN, presented the furniture to the Head of the Security Unit, reinforcing the association’s commitment to supporting various facets of the hospital’s operations.
