As part of the efforts to maintain excellence in service delivery, an accreditation team from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN), comprising medical professionals from institutions across Nigeria visited the Paediatrics Department of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, on January 29, 2025.
The team, led by Dr. Adejumoke Ayede expressed satisfaction with the improvements observed since their last accreditation visit.
Dr. Ayede noted that while the department has made significant progress, there is still room for further enhancement. She encouraged the hospital to introduce programs that would attract more Resident Doctors and other professionals to the field of Paediatrics, making it a more competitive and sought-after specialty.

Addressing the accreditation team, Prof. John Okeniyi, the Chief Medical Director of OAUTHC, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to supporting the department and welcomed suggestions for further improvements.
He highlighted the recent acquisition of a new library for enhanced learning and research, and a clinical laboratory dedicated to paediatric care. Prof. Okeniyi assured the team that all observations and recommendations would be carefully reviewed to enhance service delivery for paediatric patients.
He also acknowledged the contributions of Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, who made generous donations to the department, and called for continued support from stakeholders.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD), also acknowledged the head of the department, Dr Perpetua Obiajunwa for her dedication towards improving the department. Other members of the department were duly appreciated for collaborating with the management in quality health care delivery.

Following the visit to the Management, the accreditation team conducted a thorough assessment of hospital facilities, human resources, and other essential resources required for the department’s growth and accreditation compliance.
