Professor Ebunoluwa Aderonke Adejuyigbe, a distinguished Consultant Neonatologist and the current Head of the Neonatal Unit at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), has donated cutting-edge medical equipment to the hospital’s Neonatal Ward. Known for her unwavering passion for neonatal care, Prof. Adejuyigbe has dedicated her career to advancing the treatment of critically ill newborns.
Her groundbreaking research has led to significant improvements in neonatal care standards, earning her numerous international accolades, grants, and advisory roles. Her expertise and influence were further recognized when she was appointed as the Executive Director of the Obafemi Awolowo University’s Central Office of Research, a testament to her dedication and contributions to medical science.
The donation includes the following state-of-the-art equipment, each essential for the survival and recovery of critically ill neonates:
- Ventilator: This life-saving device supports babies with respiratory failure, ensuring adequate oxygen delivery to those unable to breathe independently.
- Blood Gas Analyzer: A critical tool for measuring oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the blood, it allows for precise monitoring and timely interventions to stabilize newborns with respiratory and metabolic complications.
- Transcutaneous Bilirubinometer: This device enables the early detection and management of jaundice, a common but potentially severe condition in newborns. By identifying high bilirubin levels, it helps prevent complications, which can cause brain damage.
- Hemoglobin Centrifuge: This equipment facilitates detailed blood analysis, providing essential insights into conditions like anemia and ensuring proper diagnosis and treatment.

Speaking on the importance of these donations, Professor Adejuyigbe emphasized the transformative impact of these machines on neonatal care. “These advanced tools will not only improve survival rates for newborns in critical conditions but also support comprehensive care at every stage of their recovery. With this equipment, we are better equipped to provide the highest standard of care to the most vulnerable members of our society,” she stated.
This generous contribution represents a significant milestone in the hospital’s efforts to establish a fully operational Newborn Intensive Care Unit, ensuring that critically ill neonates receive the specialized care they require. Prof. Adejuyigbe’s dedication and generosity will undoubtedly enhance the hospital’s capacity to save lives and improve outcomes for countless infants.
