The College of Nursing Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), on Thursday, 20th August, 2026, held its 12th Induction Ceremony at the Nurses Florence Nightingale Hall, OAUTHC.
The ceremony marked another significant milestone in the professional journey of the newly inducted nurses, as they were formally welcomed into the nursing profession and charged to uphold the values, ethics and standards of the profession in their service to humanity.
In her welcome speech, the Provost, College of Nursing Sciences, Ile-Ife and Ilesa Campuses, Mrs. Lolade Oyedero, recognised the management of the hospital, dignitaries, executives, lecturers, parents and inductees. She welcomed them to the induction ceremony of the students into the nursing profession and the graduation ceremony of the Post-Basic Nursing, Midwifery and Preoperative Nursing programmes.
She noted that nursing is a profession that carries great responsibility and requires knowledge, competence, compassion, integrity and a commitment to service to humanity. She encouraged the inductees, as they took the professional oath, to remember that every patient is someone’s relative or loved one and should therefore be treated with dignity and respect.
Mrs. Oyedero urged them to embrace continuous learning, noting that the healthcare sector is rapidly evolving with advances in technology, emerging diseases, changing patient expectations and increasing demands for healthcare services.
The Physician-in-Charge of the Dental Centre, Prof. Elijah Oyetola, on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, congratulated the graduates on their achievement and appreciated the College of Nursing Sciences for producing another set of professionals.
He urged the graduates to prepare themselves for the responsibilities and challenges that come with the nursing profession. He encouraged them to uphold the standards of the profession, keep the flag flying and strive to perform at their best.
Prof. Oyetola urged the graduates to serve their fatherland before seeking opportunities in other lands and to respect their elders. He also appreciated the parents and encouraged them to continue to guide and support their children, teach them good values, and raise them to know God and put Him first.
Mr. Joseph Olowofila, the representative of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, congratulated the students and described their induction into the nursing profession as a significant milestone, marking the transition from academic preparation to professional responsibility. He noted that the occasion also marked the beginning of their accountability and lifelong commitment to the nursing profession, adding that taking the professional oath signifies a solemn commitment to uphold the values and responsibilities of the profession.
Mr. Olowofila further encouraged them to ensure that their patients receive compassionate, competent and dignified care. He appreciated the management of the hospital and the College of Nursing Sciences before leading the graduates in the administration of the professional oath. The graduates solemnly took the oath and were formally welcomed into the nursing profession.
Mrs. Lolade Oyedero subsequently presented awards to outstanding students, beginning with the overall best graduating student with the highest CGPA, Oluwakorede Ajayi. Other outstanding students from the Colleges of Nursing Sciences in Ilesa and Ile-Ife were also recognised.
