The Federal Ministry of Health has approved the appointment of Prof. Olayinka Oladiran Adegbenhigbe as the Acting Chief Medical Director of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile- Ife with effect from Tuesday, 20th June, 2023.
In a letter signed for the Permanent Secretary by the Director, Human Resources Management the appointment is for a period of six months within which all processes for the appointment of a substantive Chief Medical Director would be initiated and concluded by the Ministry.
Prof. Olayinka Adegbenhigbe is a Paediatric Orthopedic Surgeon, President, the Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of Nigeria, and also the first black African member of the Medical Advisory Board of Ponseti International Association, U.S.A.
He coordinated the first Ponseti International Clubfoot Workshop in West Africa and translated the manual ‘Clubfoot: Ponseti Management’ to Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa languages for use in Nigeria.
Through him, Nigeria became the first country globally that produced and adopted national clinical guidelines on Clubfoot treatment. He has added two terminologies into the medical encyclopedias- ophthofall and Exposed Bone Syndrome.
