The Association of Health Records and Information Management Practitioners of Nigeria, OAUTHC Chapter, Ile-Ife marked its first world professional week. This week is celebrated globally in April. The week-long activities held in the hospital revolved around the theme: Health Information Powers Innovation.
The event started with an Awareness Rally on the first day led by the Director/ Head of the Department, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Amusan. The awareness team moved across the length and breadth of the hospital’s premises, including the office of the Chief Medical Director to enlighten members of staff on the significance of their profession in the hospital setting.
According to Mrs. Amusan, a health information professional or manager is a person whose job is to manage all the health information and data relating to a patient in order to ensure that everything is accurate, updated, secure and accessible.
Receiving the awareness rally team, the Acting Director of Administration, Mr. Tajudeen Balogun expressed his satisfaction at the initiative of Health Records and Information professionals, saying that the Management would continue to give the necessary support for their optimal performance.
While commenting on their courtesy visit, the Acting Chief Medical Director, Dr. Afolabi Owojuyigbe said that he was pleased with the conduct of the department thereby showering the team with encomiums for their support and teamwork at all times.
The Guest Speaker, Dr. Raphael Akangbe from Lagos State Ministry of Health lectured extensively on the topic, “Benefits and Challenges of Electronic Health Records Implementation in Low Resources Country.” He further identified certain challenges militating against the smooth take-off of Electronic Health Records (EHR) in many hospitals in Nigeria.
