The School of Health Information Management (SHIM) at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, held its 2024 Professional Induction Ceremony on December 13, 2024, celebrating the achievements of 70 graduating health information managers. The ceremony underscored their readiness to contribute meaningfully to the evolving healthcare industry.
Themed “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Health Information Management,” the event featured a keynote lecture by Professor Adesola Aderounmu. In his address, Professor Aderounmu highlighted the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning on healthcare systems. He urged the new professionals to adopt these technologies to enhance health information management practices, emphasizing their potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery and improve patient outcomes.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief Medical Director of OAUTHC, Professor John Okeniyi, the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (DCMAC), Professor Akinwumi Komolafe, congratulated the inductees. He encouraged them to approach their careers with dedication, integrity, and a forward-thinking mindset, stressing the importance of continuous learning and innovation in today’s digital healthcare landscape.
Distinguished guests included the Director of Finance, Mrs. Foluke Fola-Alao, and the Acting Head of Establishment, Mr. Rotimi Omotoye, representing the Director of Administration, Dr. Ayodeji Bobade. Also present was Mrs. Olubukola Champion-Afolayan, representing Alhaji Mustapha Babagana, the Registrar of the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBN).
In recognition of their contributions to the healthcare sector, awards of excellence were presented to Professor Adesola Aderounmu, Mrs. Olubukola Champion-Afolayan, Professor John Okeniyi, and Professor Eniola Eziyi, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC). Miss Veronica Dairo, the overall best student among the 2024 inductees, received multiple academic awards for her outstanding performance.
