The Department of Nursing Services of OAUTHC held its 37th Annual Nursing Education Conference with the theme, Closing the Care Gap: Multidisciplinary Team Approach, on 18th April 2023.
The conference was declared open by the Ag. Chief Medical Director Dr. Afolabi Owojuyigbe. He admonished the nurses not to take the conference with levity while emphasizing that the conference would be the second one he would be chairing as the Acting Chief Medical Director. He also appreciated the nurses’ contribution to the institution towards proper and adequate health care delivery while promising that the Management would do their best to develop the nurses through professional training.
The Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Mary Bifarin, during her welcome address, affirmed that the goal of the gathering of nurses was to improve the quality of care for cancer patients; thus, the 2-day conference would help to broaden knowledge, improve skills and enhance nurses’ approach towards effective cancer management and prevention. She appreciated the hospital management’s approval, financial grants, and logistic support.
The main highlight of the conference was the lecture on Closing the Care Gap: Multidisciplinary Team Approach delivered by Prof. Olusegun Alatise, a Consultant Surgeon at the hospital whose area of interest is Surgical Oncology and Gastroenterology.
