The Dietetics Services Unit held a sensitization program to celebrate World Dietitian-Nutritionist Day at the General Outpatient Department, Virology Department, Medical Out Patient Department, and Pediatrics Clinics on 8th March 2023.
According to the Director of Dietetics Services, Dr. Salami Akorede, the celebration started in the United Kingdom in 2008, and Nigeria adopted it in 2021. The theme of this year’s celebration, ‘Fuel For The Future,’ implies that as fuel is for the car, so is food for the body. The kind of food we eat determines how healthy we are. He further asserted that people need to be informed on what to eat to sustain their health, which is the basis for sensitizing clinic patients.
Speaking at the Virology Clinic, Dietician Adepoju stated that diet is essential for everyone, including healthy people. She further advised patients to eat varieties of food in an adequate proportion, drink lots of water and be physically active. The celebration ended with a courtesy visit to the Acting Chief Medical Director, Dr. Afolabi Owojuyigbe, who celebrated the day with them.
