OAUTHC Celebrates World Physiotherapy Day

In line with its commitment to raising awareness about the benefits of physiotherapy, the Physiotherapy Department of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), celebrated World Physiotherapy Day in grand style. The event, observed on September 9, 2024, focused on the theme “Low Back Pain,” aiming to raise awareness of back pain management and highlight physiotherapy’s vital role in restoring and maintaining optimal physical function, mobility, and well-being.

As part of the celebration, the department organized a rally within the Ife Hospital Unit and paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director and other members of the hospital’s management team.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. John A.O. Okeniyi congratulated the team and expressed appreciation for their efforts in ensuring the physical well-being of patients. He highlighted the prevalence of back pain, particularly among physicians, underscoring the importance of continued awareness and education on its management. He also pledged ongoing support for the department and its workforce.

Mr. Olufemi Akinya, speaking on behalf of the department, expressed gratitude to the hospital management for their continued support, especially for the recent recruitment of a record number of interns. He assured the department would continue to uphold its commitment to delivering quality healthcare.

In attendance were the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Prof. Josephine Eziyi, the 2024 Physiotherapy Day Coordinator, Mr. Oluwatobiloba Omisore, alongside other members of staff of the Physiotherapy Department, interns, and students.
