OAUTHC Dental Unit Celebrates World Oral Health Day in Grand Style
The Dental centre of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex OAUTHC marked World Oral Health Day 2025 with series of impactful events aimed at raising awareness about the importance of oral hygiene and its connection to overall well-being.
The week-long celebration, themed “A Happy Mouth is… A Happy Mind”, highlighted the crucial link between oral health and mental well-being. Experts emphasized that poor oral hygiene can lead to various health challenges, negatively affecting social relationships, self-esteem, and mental health.

In collaboration with the Nigerian Dental Association (Osun State Chapter), the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, and the National Association of Dental Students, the event featured a variety of activities, including a radio talk show, free dental check-ups, and an oral health outreach program. Participants received free oral health education, screenings, preventive care, and basic treatments.

The hospital’s management team, led by Chief Medical Director Professor John Okeniyi, joined the awareness and sensitization walk to promote the initiative. Speaking at the event, Prof. Okeniyi underscored the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene, stating that it plays a vital role in overall well-being and mental alertness.

The OAUTHC Dental centre remains committed to promoting good oral health practices and ensuring access to preventive and curative dental care for the public.
