The Association of Tissue Health Practitioners holds its 2024 Wounds Nigeria Conference with the theme Advancing the Field of Wound Care in Nigeria at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife.
The 2 day event started with lectures delivered by leading experts in healthcare from local and international communities. The Association which had its Inauguration in 2021 has since strived to keep the passion and commitment with which it was created.
The 2024 Conference focuses on reflecting on the past, evaluating the present, and shaping the future of wound care in Nigeria.
The Chief Host, Professor John Okeniyi, Chief Medical Director of OAUTHC, delivered the opening address. He praised the organisers for their commitment to advancing wound care in Nigeria and reaffirmed his administration’s support for the association’s initiatives.
Several insightful lectures were presented at the conference. Prof. Nair K.R. Harikrishna, president of the Malaysian Society of Wound Care Professionals MSWCP, opened the event with a virtual lecture on Woundcare dynamics.
Dr. Ayodele Iyun led a session on best practices in comprehensive wound assessment, which many participants described as an eye-opener. Professor Adesola Ogunfowokan discussed integrating research into clinical practice and developing case reports.
Dr. Chinenye Anetekhai spoke on preparing the wound bed for treatment, while Dr. Faraja Chiwanga shared a case study on managing recalcitrant wounds, with a focus on diabetic foot ulcers.
Prominent figures in attendance included His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), Professor Kayode Olabanji, Chief Medical Director of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Professor Titus Oyedele, Director of Clinical Services at Babcock University Teaching Hospital and other invited guests.
The conference also features product exhibitions by various companies, providing participants with access to innovative wound care solutions. The array of lectures and activities lined up for day 2 promises to be as impactful as Day one.
