OAUTHC Nurses Celebrate 2024 Nurses Week

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, marked the 2024 Nurses Week from November 25 to 27 by celebrating the dedication and compassion of nurses.

The event, themed “Our Nurses, Our Future: The Economic Power of Care,” featured a range of activities, including health outreaches, wellness programmes, a football match, and educational sessions. At the official official opening ceremony and award presentations, Prof. Akinwumi Komolafe, representing the Chief Medical Director, praised nurses as the backbone of healthcare and pledged ongoing support for the job they carry out in the hospital.

In her keynote address, the guest speaker, Dr. Deborah Onisile, discussed new trends in the nursing profession, emphasizing its potential as an economic driver. She highlighted the challenges faced by nurses and called for greater prioritization of the profession by the government to harness its economic benefits.

In a special moment, baby Dan Usman, born on the event’s first day, was celebrated with gifts. The week concluded with a community outreach program offering free medical tests and medications, followed by a luncheon at the Florence Nightingale Hall, OAUTHC.
