In the execution of its oversight functions, the House of Representatives Committee on Health Institutions, Abuja, paid a visit to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile Ife on Thursday, November 30, 2023.
As outlined by the Committee, this visit is an aspect of its regular oversight activities, primarily focusing on inspecting the general operating system and evaluating the facilities at OAUTHC.
The Acting Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Prof. Eniola Eziyi, led the Committee on a tour to various sections of the hospital, including the Gynaecology and Cardiac Wards.
Addressing the Committee, Prof. Uvie Onakpoya, from the Cardiac Unit, expressed the unit’s commitment to saving lives.
He however highlighted paucity of funds on the part of patients as a significant challenge faced by the unit, which leads to the delayed payment from patients. He emphasized the urgency of addressing this issue given the critical nature of the patients’ conditions.
Acknowledging the Management for their dedication of time, knowledge, and experience to advance healthcare in the hospital, Hon. Amos Magaji, the Chairman of the House Committee on Health Institutions, commended their efforts.
Furthermore, he directed the Management’s attention to key areas requiring improvement, including the beautification of the hospital’s environment and enhancing budget/record-keeping practices.
Hon. Mogaji assured that he would take decisive actions to address the concerns raised by the management, doctors, and union leaders before the conclusion of the year.
