In fulfillment of its commitment to training, research, and exceptional healthcare delivery, the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, through the Human Resource Department, organized a one-day orientation programme for all newly recruited members of staff of the hospital.

The event, held at the Clinical Skills Lecture Theatre, was graced by members of the Management team, service chiefs, heads of departments, and the newly employed staff. It provided an opportunity not only for lectures but also for various interactions on work ethics and the different codes guiding public service.

In his welcome address, the Director of Administration, Dr. Ayodeji Bobade, described the orientation as a statutory provision and an important part of the onboarding process for new members of staff of the institution. He also urged the staff to familiarise themselves with the Public Service Rules, noting that the rules guide every stage of service, from entry into the Civil Service to retirement.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Okeniyi, in his remarks, emphasized the institution’s commitment to merit-based recruitment and its fight against nepotism. Speaking on efficiency, he stated, “It is not a joke to be responsible for treating patients.” He advised the new members of staff to acquaint themselves with various important documents, including the Public Service Rules (PSR), the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act, the Code of Conduct, and other vital regulations that would help them navigate the Civil Service without difficulties. In conclusion, he emphasized the importance of licensed practice across all professions, noting that the institution strongly frowns against quackery and the irresponsible use of social media.
