The Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) witnessed a moment of celebration and reflection on Wednesday, 8th April, 2026, as its Head, Human Resource Department, Mr. Rotimi Akande Omotoye, formally retired from public service after a remarkable and impactful career spanning over three decades.

Mr. Omotoye began his career at OAUTHC on March 20, 1991, as a Clerical Officer in the Finance and Accounts Department. Through dedication and hard work, he steadily rose through the ranks, serving in various capacities including Senior Administrative Officer and as a key staff member in the SERVICOM Department between 2008 and October 2014. In October 2014, he was appointed Pension Desk Officer in the Human Resource Department, a position he held until October 2021, before becoming Head of the Pension Unit from 2021 to 2022.

Over the years, he also led the Clinical Services Training Department and served as Registrar of the College of Nursing Sciences at OAUTHC. His career peaked with his appointment as Assistant Director of Administration and Head, Human Resource Department.
Fondly known as “Bishop,” Mr. Omotoye is widely respected for his strong faith, integrity, and commitment to service, qualities that earned him admiration both within and beyond the institution.
In his goodwill message, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Okeniyi, lauded the retiree’s exceptional contributions ensuring fairness and inclusivity for staff. He also noted that during his tenure, the hospital recorded a historic milestone. He further described him as a leader of wisdom and dedication, Prof. Okeniyi commended his unwavering commitment to duty and concluded with a biblical exhortation: “Seek first the kingdom of God, and every other thing shall be added unto you.”

The newly appointed Head, Human Resource Department, Mrs. Boladale Owotade, also paid glowing tribute to her predecessor. Reflecting on their professional relationship, she described him as highly accommodating and balanced in both spiritual and professional life, offering prayers for his continued strength and fulfillment in retirement.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the certificate of retirement by the hospital’s top management team, alongside a cheque of appreciation presented by the Director of Administration, Dr. Ayodeji Bobade. In his closing remarks, Mr. Omotoye expressed heartfelt gratitude to the management team, colleagues, family, and friends for their unwavering support, prayers, and generous gifts throughout his years of service.


The event marked not just the end of a distinguished career, but the beginning of a new chapter for a man whose legacy of integrity, service, and leadership will remain indelible in the history of OAUTHC.
