The leadership of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex
(OAUTHC) has launched a comprehensive tree-planting initiative spanning from Phase IV to
the link road of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
Proposed by Mr Adesuji Adejuwon, Head of the Environmental Health Department, the
project received commendation from Prof. John A.O. Okeniyi, Chief Medical Director of
OAUTHC. In his address, Prof. Okeniyi emphasized the importance of tree planting,
highlighting its legality and alignment with the guidelines established in 1979 under the
administration of former Head of State, Shehu Shagari.

Prof. Okeniyi underscored the multifaceted benefits of the initiative, noting that beyond
aesthetic enhancement, the trees would provide shelter and contribute to disaster mitigation
efforts. He emphasized the symbolic longevity of tree planting, emphasizing that the impact
would endure long beyond the present moment.
The ceremonial tree planting commenced with principal officers of OAUTHC, including
Prof. Akinwumi Komolafe, Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee; Mr.
Olajide Omonije, Acting Director of Administration; Matron Olabisi Ajayi, Acting Director
of Nursing Services; Mr. Shadrack Adebambo, Head of Establishments, and various Heads of
Departments, all participating in the symbolic act.
The event marked a significant milestone in OAUTHC’s commitment to environmental
sustainability and community beautification, garnering participation and support from key
stakeholders.
