The Nigerian Society of Critical Care Nurses (NSCCN), a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the knowledge and skills of Nigerian critical care nurses, has successfully conducted its 17th National Scientific Conference and 9th Critical Care Congress in the Southwest region.
The prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex Ile-Ife played host to this historic event, which took place from October 1st to 7th, 2023.
This year’s conference centred round the theme “Emerging Trends in Critical Care; Embracing Technology.”
Prof. John Okeniyi, the Chief Medical Director, extended a warm welcome to the organizers and participants. He underlined the pivotal role that critical care nursing is poised to play in the future, particularly in meeting the escalating demand for nursing care.
He reassured attendees of the institution’s unwavering commitment to fostering a conducive workplace for nurses and extended well wishes for a successful conference.
The National President NSSCN, Mrs Deborah Ailewon in her remark, noted how the advancement in technology has reshaped and transformed nursing practice, giving rise to improvements in patient care outcomes.
She further said Covid-19 pandemic placed a significant spotlight on the importance of critical care within the healthcare system.
She appreciated the Management of the institution for their support and encouragement.
The highlight of the conference’s opening ceremony was the keynote lecture titled “Emerging Trends in the Intensive Care Unit: Embracing Technology,” delivered by Prof. Babatunde Osinaike from the Department of Anaesthesia at the University of Ibadan.
Prof. Osinaike delved into technology’s critical role in intensive care, addressing current trends, challenges, and the manifold benefits it brings to the field.
