Students from the Department of Geography at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, demonstrated their commitment to the community by donating essential medical materials to the hospital’s Emergency Medicine Department.
Since 2019, the students have recognized the importance of applying their classroom learning to benefit their community through donations. Dr. Olapoju Olabisi, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography, explained that one of the courses the students take in 400 level, Transportation Planning, includes a focus on safety.
This time, they provided medical items such as a drip stand, portable phlegm function unit, Sphygmomanometer, Littman Classic Stethoscope, and surgical boots to the Emergency Medicine department of OAUTHC, driven by the institution’s pressing needs.
Dr. (Mrs.) Adejoke Dipo-Babalola, a Principal Medical Officer in the department, expressed gratitude on behalf of the management and the Emergency Medicine Unit for the students’ thoughtful contribution. The Head of Nursing in the Emergency Medicine department, Mr. Amos Fagbamigbe, praised the students’ gesture, highlighting the significance of a group identifying a specific need and proactively addressing it without being prompted. He assured the students that the equipment would be safeguarded and put to excellent use in serving humanity.
